Trafford Early Development Service (TEDS) Service information leaflet
Who are we?
Trafford Early Development Service (TEDS) is part of The Health Visiting Service in Trafford Local Care Organisation (TLCO).
We support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families.
Support can include monitoring of developmental progress and Portage developmental play sessions at home. Portage is a home visiting developmental play programme for pre-school children with SEND and their families
- We assess and monitor developmental progress.
- We support families to coordinate their child’s care and arrange Team Around the Child meetings as needed.
- We work closely with other professionals involved in a child’s care, including early years settings such as nursery and pre-school.
- We offer support and advice about transition into early years settings and advise on the support options available following on from our service.
Who is eligible?
We are able to offer this support to preschool children who have a significant developmental delay in two or more areas of their development and who have a Trafford GP.
Referrals can be made by the health visiting team, other health professionals or your early years settings.
When a referral for a child is accepted into our service, we will contact the family and arrange a phone assessment to discuss how TEDS may be able to help.
We will then agree with the family what support can be offered.
There is a waiting list for our service.
When we visit
We will send a reminder text before we come, please let us know if anyone in the household is unwell as we may need to postpone our visit.
We would ask you to shut any pets away.
We would like to assure you that before each visit the toys we bring are cleaned and that staff clean their hands before each visit.
How will development be monitored?
The timing of assessments and the tools used will depend on your child’s needs and will be discussed and agreed with you. Typically, we carry out an initial assessment of your child when they are referred to our service to help us to understand your child’s needs (Schedule of Growing Skills – SOGS).
This assessment can be repeated as needed, for example to help you with making decisions about your plans for your child’s nursery/early years provision.
We may also use a development profile to track your child’s development during the time they are with TEDS.
We can share our developmental reports and profiles with your child’s setting and other professionals.
While under TEDS your child does not need to have the routine development assessments offered by the Health Visiting Service (ASQ), although they can be provided if you would still like them.
When your child is supported by TEDS you will continue to have support from your health visiting team.
