The Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) team assess, diagnose and treat people (aged 18+) with complex swallowing and communication disorders in in a community setting.
Our aim is to provide assessment, diagnosis and management of these disorders in the community setting.
Our service is for people over 18 who live in or are registered with a GP in Trafford.
Patients may present with concerns around swallowing function (Dysphagia) and /or communication difficulties. These difficulties may arise as a result of varied diagnoses including Stroke, Dementia, Progressive Neurological Conditions, Respiratory Disease and Head and Neck Cancers.
The service provides assessment, diagnosis and management of these disorders in the community setting. This includes clinic appointments, visits to own home, and nursing or residential care homes.
Education, training and support are an important aspect of our intervention alongside direct therapy.

Patients can self-refer for communication problems but a medical referral is required for dysphagia, either from GP, consultant or SLT colleague transfer.
