Every school-aged child has access to a qualified school nurse who has had additional training in school aged children’s health and wellbeing.
The School Nursing Service aims to promote the health of the school-aged child through screening, immunisation, health assessments and health promotion activities. We also offer a confidential drop-in service, offering a range of information and advice to children, young people and families relating to physical, emotional and mental health issues of health-related issues as well as referring to more specialist services.

The teams consist of qualified nurses and support workers who deliver the core elements of the Healthy Child Programme 5-19 which includes delivering public health messages through classroom based teaching and individual support sessions. School Nurses offer support and advice for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Support workers deliver the National Child Measurement Programme and offer important hearing for reception aged children.
