Trafford Local Care Organisation has been awarded funding from Manchester Cancer Alliance to launch a new community-led awareness project. It was one of a handful of projects selected from across Greater Manchester.
The project, called ‘Through the Front Door’ will involve volunteers from Trafford Macmillan Wellbeing Centre, general practice patients and staff, in efforts to get the right people through “the front door” at the right time.
The project was chosen for its innovative approach that amplifies the voices of people with lived experience of cancer to raise awareness and run super-local campaigns.
Work will happen in the West and Central Neighbourhoods, in areas with the greatest cancer inequalities.
Volunteers will be supported to use social marketing approaches to engage peers, families, and friends in local networks. Patient Participation Groups and practice staff will use ‘Front Door’ budgets to test and try out small-scale improvements, raise awareness and increase earlier presentation across their populations.
Finding cancer early saves lives and is often easier to treat. That’s why it’s so important to tell your doctor as soon as possible if you notice anything that isn’t normal for you.
