Trafford South and North Neighbourhoods are launching a new initiative aimed at encouraging men to be more proactive about their health and seek earlier help for possible cancer symptoms.
The project will focus on urological cancers, including prostate and bowel cancer. Much of the work will be delivered by General Practice patient groups and local community organisations who work with men. There will be a marketing campaign to adapt existing materials for local Trafford communities.
In Trafford, two of the top three cancers men are diagnosed with are bowel and prostate cancers. Only 54% of prostate cancers are early-stage diagnosis.
Adrian Smith, Neighbourhood Lead at Trafford Local Care Organisation, emphasised the importance of early detection, stating, “Early diagnosis is crucial. By raising awareness and encouraging men to pay attention to their health, we can save lives.”
Through targeted marketing campaigns and outreach, the project will highlight the signs and symptoms of urological cancers and encourage men to see their GP if they notice any changes.
The project is funded through Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance and continues the work of the Through The Front Door Project which is already working across Trafford to improve earlier detection of cancers.
