West Trafford proudly welcomed the Lung Health Check mobile unit for the very first time to Trafford in July.
Smokers and ex-smokers aged between 55 and 74 years old are invited for an assessment and if needed, a low grade CT scan on the unit. Two sites were used, one in Partington and one in Trafford Park. Local stakeholders including primary care, community groups, the Neighbourhood and comms teams helped amplify messages and engage local people.
The response from local people was incredible and uptake was high. Partington in particular saw an outstanding 75.9% of eligible residents come for their check. Because of the screening a significant number of people were referred into hospital for follow-up care. Others were put on a ‘follow-up’ pathway to monitor findings. This highlights how important these checks are in picking up early signs of lung cancer.
